'Metzer Eck' - the oldest restaurant in family tradition in Prenzlauer Berg since 1913
Run by our family for four generations

Almost one hundred years Metzer Eck offers gastronomic delights to its guests. Long before that time the area was a recreation destination for Berlins families. Close by was the windmill hill ("Windmühlenberg") and vinyards. Before the turn of the century the building phase started here financed by reparation from the german french war. Various streetnames still remind us today of those times. On August 1st, 1913 Clara Vahlenstein (the great grandmother of Horst Falkner) opened together with her husband Hermann "Vahlensteins Destille" on Metzer Str. 33. After Hermann's death in 1936 their daugher Charlotte supported her mother. When Clara Vahlenstein died in 1951 Charlotte took over the restaurant, which towards the end of the fourties was renamed to "Metzer Eck". In 1957 Bärbel, Charlotte's now grown up daughter, joined her mother at "Metzer Eck", and the family tradition continued. Ten years later Bärbel successfully received the official license for leading the restaurant and was welcoming guests at the "Metzer Eck" until her retirement.

During the Millenium her son Horst Falkner and his wife Sylvia took over the family business until 2006. After short but severe illness Horst Falkner passed away in March 2007. He was, unfortunately, only 40 years old. Since then his wife Sylvia Falkner runs the family restaurant. The history of our Restaurant and the neighborhood can be explored in our taprooms where you will find lots of beautiful old gravings, posters and fotos. - lots of actors and celebrities - an original letter from Heinrich Zille (1858-1929, Painter, Graphic Artist) - utensils from the savings club "Windmühlenberg" (old name of our neighborhood) - Photos of the "Windmühlenberg" - square tile stove with middle ledge around 1900 - original tap, around 1900.

Our Restaurant invites everyone to enjoy a piece of the Berliner hospitality and nostalgia.
